Doing a BCMS Crosscheck in Cattle Manager

Download current animals on your holding from CTS Web Services

To make sure that both Cattle Manager and BCMS have up to date and accurate records of the animals on your holding, the Cross Checker is used to identify the differences between the two.

Click on the ‘BCMS Check’ button on the toolbar in the Home Page or choose ‘BCMS Cross Checker’ from the Tools menu. A wizard will then appear which comprises of a series of windows to guide you through the necessary steps.

There are two options: -

1) Connect to CTS Web Services and get the current animals on your holding

  • Click on the button ‘Connect to CTS’.  The program will automatically communicate with CTS and download the information
  • Once Cattle Manager has the data it shows the date and time of download and the ‘next’ button is highlighted for you to go to the next screen and compare the BCMS information with your Cattle Manager Records

If you do not use CTS Web Service updater, you can still use the BCMS cross checker. You need to complete ‘Internet and CTS Setup’ from the ‘Setup’ Menu.

Once you have completed the Internet and CTS Setup, click on the button ‘Connect to CTS’ and again the program will communicate with CTS and download the information

2) Use the last download from CTS Web Services
  • To use the last download click on this option; it is advisable for you to regularly connect to CTS, but if you have a slow internet connection and it takes a while to download the details, or if you are wanting to compare the previous download; run a comparison using this option.  It will use the download from when you last connected to CTS Web Service
  • You will then need to go to ‘next’ which will take you onto the screen to compare the BCMS information with your Cattle Manager Records

Compare the BCMS information with your Cattle Manager records

  • The results of the comparison will be shown and details of all animals currently in the program and held by BCMS will be displayed
  • The BCMS Cross Checker enables you to work out which movements or births of animals you have not informed BCMS of. It can be used to identify which animal details do not completely match, so that you can then deal with the differences
  • To compare the cattle details held by BCMS and those entered into the Cattle program, scroll through the list
  • If you would like to see further details of an animal double click on it and, providing it has a record in the program, (whether a current animal or one that was on the holding but has since been sold or has died etc.) you will be taken to its Animal Record Card
  • If the animal details are only held by BCMS but have never been recorded in the program, this will not be possible. Any such animals should be further investigated
  • Click on ‘next’ to move to ‘Print a Cross Check report’

Print a Cross Check Report

To compare the cattle details held by BCMS and those entered into the Cattle program, scroll through the list.

  • A summary of the comparison results is given, indicating how many animals are found in each of the records and whether or not they are the same animals
  • It is possible to print a report of the comparison. This is particularly useful when you go back into the other areas of the program to deal with the differences highlighted
  • There are several ways to lay out the report - select from the options given depending on your own preferences. The report can then be previewed or printed
