This feature allows reference animals to be setup and modified if need be. The option can be used when the parent of an animal is not on your holding i.e. an AI bull or purchased animal. It is designed to allow you to enter a record purely for reference, but the animal can then be converted to a real animal if needed.
To Create a Reference Animal:
- Select 'Other' using the List Bar, then 'Reference Animals', and click on 'New' from the main screen toolbar.
- Name: Enter a name in this box (this is optional)
- Official Tag: Ear Tag details entered in this box (this is optional)
- Mgmt Tag: Management Tag details entered in this box (this is optional)
- Animal Category: Select either Cow or Bull from the drop down
- Pedigree Name: A pedigree name can be entered (this is optional)
N.B. A reference animal must have either a Name or an Official Tag and must have a Category.
From this window, users can enter parents of the reference animal; this means an unlimited number of Pedigree Generations can be entered.
Convert to Real Animal
This will create an animal record card for a Reference Animal. It will allow users to convert animals that were imported as 'Not Owned' from Beef Premium Manager into real animals. It can also be used for converting animals that have progeny on the holding but have not been on farm before themselves.
An Official Ear tag, date of birth and breed are required to convert animal to real animal.
Having clicked the 'Convert to Real Animal' button, the screen will allow you to enter the initial on-farm status. The program default shows that all animals are 'Born on Farm'. i.e. the animal was bred on the home holding. Clicking the drop down arrow to the right of the box will display other options for acquiring the animal.
Instructions:
- Once in the reference animal's record, click 'Convert to Real Animal'.
- Choose how the animal came to be at your holding from the 'Initial On Farm Status' drop down menu.
- Enter the appropriate corresponding information into the boxes that appear.
- Click on 'Save'.
