Traders
Traders are people or companies that you deal with when buying, selling or moving animals or when purchasing feed and veterinary medicines, i.e. animal buyers, animal suppliers, feed suppliers and veterinary medicine suppliers.
There is an important link between Livestock Traders and Locations and so when setting up a new Trader it is advisable to also set up their location details.
Locations
Locations are places where you move, sell or purchase your animals to or from, e.g. other places on your own holding, grass keep, abattoirs, markets, etc. They are the destination or origin of any animal movement that is entered in the program, including movements on your own main holding and other linked holdings.
To set up a Trader:
- Click the 'Setup' drop down menu (at the top of the page), select 'Traders' and then click on 'New' on the data entry window toolbar. Alternatively choose 'Other' in the List Bar, then 'Traders' and click on 'New' on the main screen toolbar.
- Type the 'Trader Name' into the Name box.
- Tick the box(es) to show the trader type.
- Enter the address details if known.
- Once satisfied that the details you have entered are correct, remember to click on 'Save'.
To set up a Location:
- Click the 'Setup' drop down menu (at the top of the page), select 'Holdings and Off farm Locations' and then click on 'New' on the data entry window toolbar. Alternatively choose 'Other' in the List Bar, then 'Holdings and Locations' and click on 'New' on the main screen toolbar.
- Type the 'Location Name' into the Name box.
- Click on one of the dot buttons to show who the location belongs to.
- If 'Belongs to' has been selected then you must select a trader from the drop down menu.
- Click on one of the dot buttons to indicate Location Type.
- Tick the relevant box(es) in the 'Other details' section.
- Enter address details if known.
- Once satisfied that the details you have entered are correct, remember to click on 'Save'.
To set up Locations for separate parts of your own holding, you should click into 'Other' in the list bar, and go into On Farm Locations to perform the steps above.
